COVID-19 Grocery Mission, Week 2

This week, we have passed out or delivered this set of groceries to 36 families, which totaled 150 people. We spent right at $350 for the week on groceries. That makes it $9.73 per family, and $2.33 per person! We were also able to take some to the Little Food Pantry and will be reaching out to Life Ministries.

We had a handful of families who told us they didn’t need the help this week and to give it to someone else because they had secured a job, had some left over, or didn’t have kids at the house. It was so encouraging to have these conversations, and we will be checking back in with everyone next week to see if they need more assistance!

COVID-19 Grocery Mission

I wanted to give a quick update on our COVID-19 Grocery Mission since many of you that are not church members have helped or donated!

For those of you who don’t know, we sent home flyers in the bags of food that we usually send out to those on the Backpack Program. This flyer offers grocery assistance for anyone who needs it. Thankfully, the school has been delivering meals to these students each day and that has allowed the information to be spread to those families who are in need of assistance during this time.

Seeking Flood Relief Volunteers in Arkansas

UPDATE July 10, 2019: The church will not be having this work day on July 13. Instead, there’s some building projects that are being vetted that will need work in the coming weeks. We will reschedule this event once the date is set.

Prairie Grove First United Methodist Church is working with UMCOR to volunteer for relief efforts in the River Valley and South Arkansas on Saturday, July 13, 2019. At this point, we are seeking volunteers to sign up and commit to physically serving in these devastated areas.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and able to perform manual labor. The church will coordinate with volunteers to provide training prior to the work day. As more plans become concrete, we will communicate those details here.

If you are interested in helping, please sign up at the link below so that we can have your contact information.
